"Sunshine"
March 5, 2007
Sunshine was born in Holland on August 25, 1989 and was named Shanna's Gunes – Pandora of Antioch. She came into our home and hearts in April 1996, a gorgeous long-haired Red Tabby Turkish Angora with big paws, who delighted us with her sweet and affectionate ways. She would sleep with us and then wake Jim promptly at 7:00 A.M. with her vocal 'story' about why he had to get up. She enjoyed grooming Jim's hair, sitting out on a deck chair with us on a sunny day, and those special visits from her godmother, Francine. Every day, she would wait patiently for 4:00 pm and then come running to sit on Jim's lap for what became known as their "bonding time." Four years ago, we discovered a small lump and the doctors said she needed surgery to remove a cancer on her scapula. Her leg and shoulder blade were amputated and she surprised the doctors with her rapid recovery and lust for life that they called her the wonder cat! Each night after dinner, she would come running on all three legs to sit on my lap because that was "Mom's time" and whether she was sitting on your lap or sleeping with us in bed she had to hold your hand! Then just six months shy of her 18th birthday, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma and on March 5th we were forced to perform our final act of kindness by sending her through the 'Smaller Gate' to Heaven. There are many friends who tell me that all is well and that she is sitting at God's feet but if I know my Sunshine, she is sitting on His lap! There will never be a more loving, precious gift from God than our 'Sunshine' and we will miss her dearly. She will forever be in our hearts.
